Proverbs 10:6

August 17, 2010

Blessings crown the head of the righteous,

but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 10:6

Business App

Guard your mouth at all times. If necessary, walk away before saying poorly chosen words. If absolutely necessary, duct tape the sucker shut.

Food for Thought

The difference between the “righteous” and the “wicked” are found in choices. Choose to say the right thing every time and you’re on the way to righteousness. Choose to say whatever comes out of your mouth and you’re on the way to being marked as a wicked person. Don’t hide behind the illusion that “I’m just made that way.” True, you are made in a specifically unique fashion, and true, you may have a proclivity to “open mouth and insert foot” but that doesn’t mean you have to stay that way. Ask God to help you gain control over what comes out of your mouth.

Next Steps

  1. Count to ten before replying to anyone about anything. Yes, people will be shocked and they won’t know how to deal with you for a while, but eventually they’ll get used to it… and oddly enough, after a while of you practicing this discipline, they’ll actually consider you wise for doing so.
  2. No better place to practice this discipline is in the home. Carefully consider the words of your spouse and carefully consider the words of your children before giving them an answer. You’ll grow a better you and you’ll grow a more loving family.
